
Overview of Services
The School of Science & Mathematics at Belhaven University provides a multidisciplinary hub for scientific discovery, innovation, and hands-on learning across science and mathematics. The core supports faculty research, undergraduate research, classroom instruction, and collaborative projects through a diverse range of modern analytical and biological instrumentation. Capabilities include spectroscopic techniques such as UV-Vis, FTIR, and benchtop NMR; chromatographic analysis, including GC, GC-MS, and HPLC; and elemental and materials characterization through EDX. Biological research capabilities include PCR, inverted microscopy, protein and gel imaging, Western blot analysis, and spectrophotometric analysis using NanoDrop technology. A central focus is providing students and faculty with opportunities to develop technical expertise through direct experience with scientific instrumentation, faculty mentorship, and collaborative research. These resources support interdisciplinary investigation while providing hands-on training in modern analytical and laboratory techniques. Through its combination of instrumentation, research support, and experiential learning, the School of Science & Mathematics serves undergraduate research, interdisciplinary collaboration, scientific innovation, and excellence at Belhaven University and throughout the broader community.
